INTRODUCTION.

Over the past two years, I have been deeply engaged in independent research that integrates microbiology, ecology, and analytical chemistry, demonstrating sustained commitment to scientific inquiry and professional development.

My primary research project, ‘Developmental and environmental variation in the microbial communities of the newly hatched juvenile marine snail, Nucella ostrina,’ examines how microbiome composition shifts across early life stages and environmental contexts. This work involved field sampling, molecular techniques, bioinformatic analysis, and statistical interpretation, and is currently in the process of publication. I have presented this research at multiple regional and national conferences, including the Canadian Society of Microbiology Annual Conference and the Pacific Ecology and Evolution Conference, as well as at institutional venues through oral and poster presentations.

In addition to microbial ecology, my honours thesis focuses on quantifying triglyceride levels in Nucella ostrina using quantitative nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. This interdisciplinary project bridges biochemical analysis and ecological physiology, further strengthening my expertise in different fields of science. Collectively, these projects have provided me with extensive research experience both in field work, laboratory skills, data analysis, writing and communicating with scientific and non-scientific audiences.

The above shows my qualifications for this certification with in-depth explanations and evidence provided throughout this E-portfolio.
